YouTube For Your Business

So you’re a small business owner or an entrepreneur faced with the challenge of continuously growing your business, finding new customers or clients, retaining your existing customer base, keeping expenses down and discovering ways to out-maneuver your competition.

Guess what? You’re not alone.

YouTube is the world’s second most frequently used search engine and should be a vital part of your overall marketing and promotional strategy. You have a goal in mind for your YouTube videos and the capability to communicate with your audience. Your next step would be to select the approach that you will take to achieve your objectives.

As a video producer, you’re encouraged to create and maintain your own YouTube channel. When using YouTube for your business, you want to research your audience, figure out what types of videos appeal to your target audience, and then cater to their wants and needs. You need to take an extremely creative approach in order to set yourself apart from the competition, capture your target audience’s attention, and build their loyalty. You want to figure out what types of videos your target audience already enjoys watching on YouTube and incorporate some of these concepts and elements into your videos. Use your own creativity! A YouTube video can utilize various aspects to capture your target audience’s attention. However, you can often take that same material and package it into a video that takes more of an instructional, product or service demonstration, or a how-to approach that utilizes a much more subtle sales message. You may discover that your audience will have a greater interest and appreciation when you adopt a less sales-oriented approach in your videos, which can also include customer testimonials, if applicable.

A YouTube video can also tell a story. For example, using your video, you can take your audience behind the scenes at your company or manufacturing facility to demonstrate how your products are made, introduce them to those who create them, or have the company’s founder share their story about how the company was conceived. Storytelling on YouTube can be a very influential way to communicate with your audience, especially if the person featured in the video has a compelling, entertaining, and outgoing personality.

A YouTube video can also be used to showcase a special event, speech, presentation, serve as a video blog (vlog or video diary), or have the goal of simply entertaining people. Do keep in mind, video is a visual medium, so use it. Don’t just talk to your audience. Actually demonstrate what you’re talking about rather than just featuring a “talking head.” If your video’s goal is to showcase a product, for example, be sure to visually show off every aspect of that product within your video.

If you decide to share news, facts, or information with your audience, choose the most visually compelling and entertaining way to convey the content in order to keep your viewers’ attention. Creatively using entertainment and/or humor, for example, is an excellent way to make otherwise complex or monotonous information pleasing in a YouTube video. You can also create and use colorful and animated charts, graphs, tables, and bulleted lists, when applicable.

Within the first few seconds of every video, and in using your YouTube channel as a whole, one of your core objectives should be to quickly build a rapport with your audience, while at the same time building up your credibility. Your viewers should want to hear what you have to say in your videos and also trust what you’re saying.
